November 16, 2009

Hello, Friends,

We have a new fundraiser underway, and just in time for Christmas.  Many of you will have seen our "Shorty's" note cards, which are on sale at the circulation desk.

We have selected the Union Grill as our second "Landmark", painted for us and donated by Eighty Four artist, and Friends member, Betty Reid.  These cards will be available before the end of November, which brings me to my second news item  - - - -

For a week starting on Monday, November 30, throughout opening hours, the library will hold its first semi-annual Used Book Sale.  The Friends have volunteered to help, and volunteers will be setting up the sale on the lower level.  We will be manning the sale for the entire week.

And, as an extra attraction, out gift wagon will be open throughout the sale.  Both note cards will be available.  How about these for a novel Christmas card?  Book bags, umbrellas will be on sale, along with the remaining copies of our cookbook from a couple of years ago.  Great stocking stuffers!  Don't miss a visit to the sales when you stop in on the week of November 30.  We'll look forward to seeing you.

Hello Friends ~

Welcome to your web page.  And if you are not a member, you are equally welcome.  We plan to post news items about the Friends activities frequently, to let everyone know how we support our library.

You see here the list of current members of the Friends' Board.  One of our principal responsibilities is to decide how best to support the library, using your membership contributions which make this possible.  More about that one day soon.

For today, a few words of introduction, particularly to those new to the Friends.  Established in 1945, the first President was the then Principal of Trinity High School.  An early copy of the by-laws spelled out our goals, true to this day:

To maintain an association of people interested in books and libraries.

To provide a better understanding in the community of the needs of the library.

To focus attention on the library's facilities and services.

To stimulate gifts, endowments and bequests to the library.

To aid the library financially from its resources.

The Board will shortly hold its first meeting of the new season.  We will review membership, the principal source of our funds; consider requests for the use of these funds for library improvements; and brainstorm ideas for fundraising projects.

Please stay tuned!  As soon as some of the plans for the coming year are ironed out, we will report them to you here.
