Subject Guide to the Internet

Search Engines and Directories

Searching on the Internet can be done in several ways.  With Internet Search Engines Engines, such as Google,  you enter one or more key words that describe your question.  A natural language Search Engine, such as Ask Jeeves, allows you to enter your key words in the form of a sentence.  A Search Engine is good to use when your question is narrowed to specifics, such as a person's name.

Internet Subject Directories, such as Yahoo, allow you to choose your topic from a broad list of subject areas, narrowing your choice as you click along.  (You may also do key word searching on Yahoo since it contains a Search Engine.)  Subject searching is good to use when your subject is broad, such as finding information on American History.

CYBRARIAN SITES

A "cybrarian" web site is a lot like your local library--both are gateways to knowledge, but this library does not consist of bricks and books--it exists only in "cyberspace."  Try these sites to reach a wide range of information.
