Citizens Library is seeking a dynamic Library Administrator
Citizens Library's Administrator will be retiring. The library, one of the state's 29 District Center Libraries, serves the Counties of Washington and Greene in scenic southwestern Pennsylvania. It also serves as the County System Headquarters Library for Washington County which is approximately 30 miles south of cultural Pittsburgh and the home of Washington and Jefferson College. The library, open 65 hours per week and operating with a budget of just under 1 million dollars, has a staff size of 18 f/t and 14 p/t employees and has an immediate service area population of 56,484. The library is enthusiastically supported by an active Friends group.
The library administrator reports to an 11- member board of trustees and is responsible for the administration of the library which includes oversight of the 14-member library system and 16-member library district. This person works within the framework of the library's mission, goals and budget, and within the PA framework of libraries.
The position includes statewide travel and continuing education as well as involvement with Commonwealth Libraries and the PA Library Association. Attendance is required at District Library Center meetings as well as board, committee and other meetings as necessary.
The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, innovative leader, with demonstrated ability to successfully plan, organize, motivate, delegate and lead within a library environment. Successful candidates must have:
Demonstrated success in financial
management, budget planning and budget administration.
Strong communication skills in
working with the staff, board, community and funding bodies.
Experience with personnel management
and dedication to staff development.
Willingness to engage the board and
volunteers in fundraising and development.
Politically savvy with demonstrated
abilities in relationship building with community stakeholders.
Understanding of library
technologies
Willingness to take the initiative in
advancing library services.
Willingness to be actively involved
in the community.
Demonstrated public relations
abilities.
Experience with grantwriting and
administration.
Ability to develop a thorough knowledge of local, state and national laws which impact libraries.
Qualifications: Must possess an MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited
institution; 5 years library experience; and 3 years of superior library
administration experience.
Salary Range: $50,000 - $65,000 depending upon experience and qualifications (plus benefits).
