Monetary gifts may be given for the purchase of books or to the general fund in memory of family members and friends or in honor of a birthday, anniversary, or other special occasion. Each book is marked with a gift plate and a card is placed in permanent file. Contact the Memorial Department for further information or print out a form and send it to the Library. If Citizens Library does not own a title, we can attempt to get it for you from another library. Libraries may or may not supply requested materials. Any registered borrower may place an interlibrary loan request. Requests are taken by the Reference staff or the Interlibrary Loan staff will assist in determining if the title you request is appropriate for interlibrary loan. Reference and genealogy materials may NOT be available. A minimum of 2-3 weeks is necessary for requested material to be received. Often there is no charge for materials, however, some libraries do have fees which we must pass on to the patron. If there is a charge you will be notified prior to ordering the materials. It is possible to obtain photocopies for a fee. To obtain photocopies, complete citation information is necessary. You will be advised of changes prior to ordering materials. Contact Interlibrary Loan Department for further information. The Library offers free programs of general interest, including Sunday afternoon recitals, S.A.T. testing preparation, Noontime Book Reviews, Mystery Book Club, and theater trips. Special annual events are also held including the spring Book Sale and the Holiday Arts Festival.
The library is pleased to offer access to the Internet. Use of the Internet is intended to enhance the materials offered by the library. Users are asked to read and sign an Internet Agreement. Those under age 18 must have the policy read and signed by a parent or legal guardian. Ask about this service at the Reference Desk. POWER, the PA online World of Electronic Resources, is available through the library's Internet computers or from your home computer. POWER is an extensive and comprehensive group of databases for adults and children. Included are magazine, journal, and newspaper articles, a photo archive, information on literature, poetry, art, science, and more. Also available are SIRS Knowledge Source with up-to-date information on social science, government, and the art and humanities. The Testing and Education Reference Center provides college and career information, practice tests for college, civil service, G.E.D., and more. With Grolier Online you can search encyclopedias and other reference sources. Two word processing computers with Microsoft Word or Corel WordPerfect are available. The cost to print is $.20 per page. The Reference staff will search its genealogical records and answer basic inquires for a fee. The following services are offered. 1. Searching obituaries in the local newspapers as long as the
complete date of death is provided. The same is true for marriage and
birth announcements. We have microfilm copies of the local newspapers :
The Washington Reporter (August 1808 - April 1967); The Washington
Observer (January 1872 - December 1969); and The Observer-Reporter
(January 1970 to present). They are not indexed and searching without an
exact date is impractical. 2. Searching the Library's Catalog, Pedigree Charts, Surname Files and indexed county histories and biographies. Fees for conducting a search are $10.00 per name. The fee is $15.00 if only the month and year are provided. This includes postage and up to five (5) copies. Additional copies are fifty cents ($.50) each. Charges apply even if the search results are negative. Checks are payable to Citizens Library. We will begin searching once payment has been received. Citizens Library does loan books on family histories through our Interlibrary Loan Department. Interlibrary loan requests must be made through your local library. Microfilm holdings are not made available on interlibrary loan. Copy machines are located on the main floor and are available for public use for $.15 per copy. A public fax is available during library hours at the circulation desk. The rate is $1 per page to send (in continental U.S.) or receive.
